J-Serve is the annual day of service for Jewish youth throughout the world. It is a day on which Jewish teens join their counterparts in other faith communities, other cities and other countries in giving of their time to serve the communities in which they live.

Grants and Awards

Congratulations to all our J-Serve 2009 grant winners. Grants were awarded in three different categories.

Mini Grants of up to $2500 are awarded to communities that run J-Serve projects that meet a significant community need; collaborate between three community agencies; and run projects that attract large numbers of teens. J-Serve 2009’s mini-grantees were Phoenix, AZ; San Francisco, CA; Washington, DC; New Orleans, LA; MetroWest, NJ; New York , NY; Rockland, NY; Staten Island, NY; Toledo, OH; Philadelphia, PA; Knoxville, TN; Houston, TX; San Antonio, TX;

J-Serve Leadership Corps Grants were awarded to 8 communities that wanted the opportunity to create broad community partnerships and increase the service and leadership opportunities for J-Serve participants in their community. Communities formed a teen planning committee of at least 4 teens, representing at least three different major youth movements, who were the key planners for J-Serve 2009; met with teens at least four times throughout the program year, to perform a combination of service, learning, and planning for J-Serve; and recruited a minimum of 4 teens to attend the J-Serve Training Conference (along with the adult coordinator). These cites received a Mini Grant, as well as an additional $2500 to support their ongoing efforts. Congratulations to our J-Serve Leadership Corps Communities

J-Serve has just launched the J-Serve Leadership Corps, which gives agencies the opportunity to create broad community partnerships and increase the service and leadership opportunities for J-Serve participants in their community.

The J-Serve Leadership Corps provides $2,500 in funding to support the formation of an ongoing, interdenominational leadership team.

All recipients of the $2,500 J-Serve Leadership Corps grant must commit to:

  • Forming a teen planning committee of at least 4 teens who will be the key planners for J-Serve 2009. These teens must represent at least three different major youth movements or significant community populations;
  • Meeting with teens at least four times throughout the program year, to perform a combination of service, learning, and planning for J-Serve; and
  • Recruiting a minimum of 4 teens to attend the J-Serve Training Conference (along with the adult coordinator). Travel subsidy funds (for a total of 5 participants, 1 adult and 4 teens) have been allocated to support the delegation’s attendance.

After reviewing a number of very qualified applicants for this opportunity, we are proud to announce our eight Leadership Corps communities: Atlanta, GA; Austin, TX; Baltimore, MD; Hartford, CT; Los Angeles, CA; Pittsburgh, PA; San Diego, CA; and Seattle, WA.

Congratulations to our Mini Grant Recipients!
